Changing Climate and the Fabric of the University in Mozambique:
Re-examining the base for eco-logical agency

Globally, climate change has affected higher education systems. In Mozambique, universities have been responding to changing climate demands in various ways. Actions towards addressing climate change-related events include introduction of courses and curriculum reforms, emerging researchers and research groups, rising outreach and community engagement programs and new governing structures. However, university’s response to events related to climate change is often erratic. This lecture examines the university and climate change understanding in Mozambique. It maps the presence or absence of climate change issues in the university institutional fabric and scrutinises the knowledge base and institutional infrastructure on which climate change actions are engaged. The paper rethinks the main university functions during extreme climate change events.
