The Nursery as a Gender Political Module of the Workfare State of Functionally Differentiated Society: Assignment of Tasks and its Implementation
The project starts with the observation of a new gender political function of nursery organizations, assigned by the Workfare State. Accordingly, nurseries, characteristically People Changing Organizations, are meant not only to influence children’s gender development, but also to influence families’ gendered division of labor. However, this employment and gender political aim, which is intended in the function of nurseries, is still largely missing. Two national programs, “KitaPlus. Because Good Childcare is not a Question of the Time of Day” and “MORE Men in Nurseries”, are promoting this missing process.
The project aims to explore the new gender political function of nurseries’ in the context of how these two national programs are implemented. For this very reason, the project proposal employs a differential theoretically shaped analytical frame in order to investigate the nursery on the welfare state level, the meso-level of nursery organizations as well as within the nursery’s performance relationship to the family as a social system, and to integrate them in a gender sociological and differential theoretically way.
